  • What buyers say about Fiona Valpy The Storyteller of Casablanca

I liked the setting as I remembered my experiences in modern exotic Morocco, a land of mystery and dichotomies, including the medina, the Melilla, and the rug weavers.

This is an ambitious book that covers a lot of ground, from the plight of refugees in the 1940s to the pain of loss, mental illness, and the resilience of women, all in a warm and accessible style.

They had left their home in France in the hope that they might one day be able to get into America, but the paperwork to get into America is very difficult and they need to leave Casablanca for Portugal before they can get into America.

The author cleverly alternates between the two protaganists until the story is fully told, and I was so impressed with the writing that I read it cover to cover for a few nights.

I loved the characters and the way they were described, it made me think of real life, and I could picture all the characters and their journeys all as vivid as real life.
