Is this strong enough to hold on to when it's built?
Yes. I gave this particular puzzle to my son in law and he and his friends have had a lot of fun playing with it.
Our kit is missing wax, so we're wondering what we could use as a substitute.
I didn't assemble it and don't know about the wax, but I think a silicone spray would work just fine if it directs you to certain places.
Is it possible to disassemble it and reassemble it again in a year or so, after a while?
No, but this absolutely Awesome and wonderful self - put together wooden Steely ball Roller Coaster, and everyone who sees it wants to run the years and see "it" in.
Is it possible for this to be painted?
I have used model paints on similar laser cut wood models and it worked fine, just be careful where fit can be an issue like on axles and gears rubbing together.
