The first set was not good, but Amazon sent a replacement set that works well with my particular set, and I was very happy with the performance of the second set.
The only kind of flat wound strings that should be used for guitars is these, because they eliminate most of the "squawking" noises made when you change your left-hand fingering.

The EFT17's are wrapped in round wires but then flatter, which is what the advertised result is, but I found them easier on the fingertips than standard mediums.
