I was given an advanced copy of the book and was very excited to review it.

This is refreshing because a lot of parenting self-care is more like getting away for the weekend and painting your nails, which is not realistic when you are in the throes of parenting a child from a hard place.

This book was different for me because it met me exactly, instead of setting an impossible standard and another list of "shoulds."

The book weaves the personal parenting experiences of Lisa Qualls, her family's adoption journey and working to implement many of the topics of the book into her home, making the wealth of Dr. Karyn Purviss clinical and real world expertise even more accessible.

The book is an encouraging read written in a gentle, hopeful tone and uses the Qualls family's stories to show what to do, explain why it works, and describe how to implement each strategy including the exact words/ phrases they use.
