What buyers say about Richard Miles Carthage Must Be Destroyed: The Rise and Fall of an Ancient Civilization
I did not think I would like this book when I was looking for a good history read, but I did. I have an MA in modern history, and I have a strong grounding in the classical period, but not comprehensive knowledge.
The author makes it a fairly popular level overview without giving the feeling that he is giving away too much information.
Carthage, its colonies, and interactions with its neighbors were all well described in the book, but the reference to the Melquart-Hercules worship became a bit redundant in the second half.
The book is very well researched and written in a clear language. I was moved to research corollary topics by the many notes that moved me.
I have a Masters in Modern History but not comprehensive knowledge, so I did not need to go to school to get background on this work.
