  • What buyers say about Commando: A Boer Journal of the Boer War

The author did a great job of mixing combat and daily life in a way that made it seem more interesting and gave a better perspective on life in the military.

A great read for anyone interested in the war in South Africa, this is a detailed account of the combat actions of small units during the early years of the war, as well as the age-old practice of guerilla warfare.

The author only referred to his antebellum life in the first chapter of the work and only began to write about it in the later chapters.

I got a soldiers perspective from this book and some of the authors stories are amazing. I earned a new appreciation for the Boers and their tactics against a far superior force.

The author's style and description of the countryside made me recommend this book to everyone in South Africa.
