The neighborhood hired designers and builders and built their own ramps, but no one said a word. This is an absorbing read in which you care for the individuals and families who are described and in the meantime you learn history, both the recent past as well as the ancient.
I was amazed by Peter Hessler's previous books, they were all about exploring a different and higher level than any other writers I have read.
This is a book that I would recommend to anyone who was in Cairo during the time Hessler was there.
