What buyers say about Stephen Mitchell Gilgamesh: A New English Version
This is one of the oldest works in the western canon and will appeal to those with a general interest in literature.
It is not a book of Assyriology, but rather a piece of literature. It tries to fill in gaps in the text, leaves out the most egregious repetitions, does not not offer translator notes, and just tells the tale rather than relating the text to the source material.
It was a pleasure to read this translation, it is not the most literal, but it is the most accessible version I have tried.
The story is advertised as the oldest one recorded, but I have found the translation to be informative and enjoyable.
I liked the translation, it felt a little bit less academic and more poetic than others I have read.
