What buyers say about Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Half of a Yellow Sun
I didn't know much about the way the Biafrans lived, the way they cooked, the marriage customs, or why there was such animosity between the northern and the south.
The attempts at evenhandedness and the way in which the story is told through the personal lives of a small group of characters left me disappointed.
I have read this book twice, the first time I was working and the second time I am retired and enjoy reading slowly, I just love the people in it.
Some are memorable because everyone agrees that they are classics and the brouhaha that surrounds them makes it hard for the reader to forget them. Others are good because they strike a cord in the reader's mind, evoke strong emotions, or remind the reader of a lived experience.
The novel "Half of a Yellow Sun" is a great historical fiction about a Civil War in Nigeria in the 1960s, as well as the lives of many people who are engaged with each other and surrounding events.
