It is not possible for people to smell anything if they use it wrong. We have a 2400 square foot home with a central blower and we removed the filter from the ceiling and put it in the farthest away from the blower.
I have not used it yet, but I will stick with it on my air conditioning filter once I get it from Amazon, they are out of stock, so I will keep an eye on it.
I bought these for a weekend when my in-laws were coming to visit us, and they made my home smell like spring.
