I haven't experienced the same quality or noise increase as others have mentioned. I also feel that the thinner, more shear carbon filters may be on purpose.
I believe that the thinner, more shear carbon filters may be to allow more particles to get to the HEPA filter rather than accumulating on the carbon filter sheet.
I contacted customer service at LEVOIT and they sent me another set of carbon pre filters for free, but the issue still persists.
The Levoits have done a great job of controlling the problems with cooking odors and cigarette smoke that I have with my cat and dog.
The unit we have had produces clean, purified air and the filters are easy to change.
