I use mine for cleaning my glasses and computer screens, if you are rich, you can use then to dry dishes.

Does it come with a container to hold it when not using it?

These are thin and they came in a small padded envelope with my other items.

Is there a way to get rid of the nasty smell?

I've had it out in the open since I've gotten it, and I'm going to use it on my car because I didn't have to use it for the purpose I bought it for.

Is it possible that they will be good for cleaning lcd screens?

They work great and I use them to clean mirrors.

Are they good for drying a brand new vehicle?

You'd need several to dry a new vehicle if you buy this cloth from Costco, which works out at 50c a cloth.
