I believe the arm rail should be raised for safety reasons.

I use nicely "cushioned" work out socks and tennis shoes, and it works great for me, I like it because it does lay flat, unlike many treadmills that still have a slight incline even at the lowest level.

I think you need to attach the red emergency stop key, there's a magnetic yellow space where it can attach.
